Who or what influenced your interest in dogs and dog events?
Starting off in conformation, I developed an interest in other dog events through my friend and trainer, Dresden Graff. My kids and I greatly enjoyed earning CGC titles on our Cavaliers and wanted to learn how to do more with them. Our trainer introduced us to agility, rally, and obedience. His patient encouragement led to several of us developing a love for dog sports and a drive to improve as handlers.
How long have you been participating with your dogs?
I have been participating in AKC conformation for 12 years. My daughter, Emma, began participating in AKC obedience, rally and agility with my dogs 4 years ago. My own Novice-A dog, Fancy, and I have been participating in obedience, rally, and agility for 2 years.
What breeds have you owned?
We currently own Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Joel and I owned a golden retriever when we first got married.
What are your goals?
My main goal is to learn how to be a good handler and keep this special girl enthusiastically begging me to train her for as long as I can. I hope to earn RACH (rally championship) with Fancy this year and then begin to show her in Utility. I would really love to eventually earn UD and PACH with Fancy.
What events have you attended?
I’ve attended many conformation dog shows as well as agility, obedience and rally trials in Texas and Oklahoma. Recently, Fancy and I were honored to attend the 2020 AKC Rally National Championship in Orlando.
What is your favorite location where you have shown your dog?
My favorite has to be showing at the Rally National at Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.
Describe your contributions to Lone Star Dog Obedience Club.
I LOVE helping put on dog shows. All year long, I enjoy being part of the nitty gritty, behind-the-scenes effort and collaboration that all comes together in one (or 2 or 3) long, exhilarating, busy days of helping many people enjoy a sense of accomplishment in their fun hobby with their dog. My husband and I help with the club’s website and Facebook page and regularly attend meetings. I was trophy chair for our sanctioned A match and volunteered to help at the FASTCAT fund raiser this past year.
